Cleaning Quote Extras: Tasks and Charges to Clarify
Cleaning quote extras are easiest to manage before they become last-minute requests. A task you regard as part of a room may be an optional service for the provider, particularly when it requires more time, different equipment or a separate assessment.
Build an extras list alongside your main cleaning brief. Ask each business to identify which items are included, available at an additional price or outside its service.
Separate detailed kitchen tasks
Explain whether you need the oven interior, rangehood components, refrigerator interior or empty cupboard interiors cleaned. Mention appliance size and condition where relevant. A request to clean kitchen surfaces does not establish that all of these tasks are covered.
Tell the provider if an appliance would need to be moved to reach an area. Do not assume that a cleaner will disconnect equipment or shift a heavy appliance. Ask what can be assessed safely and whether another arrangement is required.
Describe windows and less accessible areas
Window work may involve glass only, or additional screens, tracks and frames. Internal and external access can also differ. Identify the parts you want assessed and explain anything that cannot be reached from normal floor level.
Balconies, garages, storage rooms and outdoor areas should be listed explicitly. Include photographs where they clarify the condition or access, without presenting the photograph as proof that the proposed work is suitable for a particular method.
- Name each extra rather than using “everything included”.
- State quantities or approximate sizes where useful.
- Flag areas that require moving belongings first.
- Ask the provider to record exclusions in its response.
Ask about access-related costs
Parking charges, long equipment routes, stairs or restricted entry windows may affect a proposal. Describe them at the enquiry stage and ask whether the quoted amount already accounts for those arrangements.
If parking or building approval is not confirmed, say so. A tentative visitor space should not be described as guaranteed access. Update the provider when you receive confirmation so it can reconsider any assumptions before the visit.
Clarify how extra work is approved
Ask what happens if the cleaner identifies work outside the agreed scope. Confirm who can authorise an additional charge and whether the business will provide an updated amount before proceeding. An available contact makes that conversation easier.
Keep priority tasks separate from optional ones. If time or budget is limited, tell the provider which extras matter most and ask for a suitable revised scope. Do not expect the team to infer your preferences from a long list of possibilities.
Compare totals after the extras are resolved
For an illustrative example, an initial proposal for bathrooms and floors might change when an oven interior and balcony are added. The revised offer should show enough detail for you to understand what changed, rather than merely a new total.
